Can reverse osmosis remove viruses from water?
Asked a year ago
Reverse osmosis seems to be a popular option when purifying water. I know it gets rid of potential toxins and other nasty stuff, but does it also get rid of viruses that might be present in water?

Reverse osmosis units have very high effectiveness in removing viruses like Enteric, Hepatitis A, Norovirus, and Rotavirus. Reverse osmosis works on a molecular level, which means only water molecules fit through the tiny membrane. However, it doesn't filter everything because some contaminants and bacteria are molecularly smaller than water and slip through.
