Will aerating the water in my aquarium raise pH?
Asked 2 years ago
I have a water swirl that I use to aerate my drinking water which produces great-tasting water. I maintain a small aquarium at home and I usually use tap water for it. I recently took an interest in providing my fish with optimum pH water although I'm not sure if using aerated water for the aquarium will not make it too alkaline.

When water is aerated, it creates turbulence which causes the CO2 to outgas. The outgassing of CO2 increases the pH of the water. However, aeration increases the pH but does not increase total alkalinity. Aerating your aquarium water could be beneficial for your fish as it allows them to breathe properly.
