Will I get kidney stones if I drink electrolyte water?

Asked 2 years ago

My sister bought me a reverse osmosis filter for my new apartment. I intend to use electrolytes to improve the water quality. My family has a history of kidney stones, and I'm concerned that I might develop them. I'm considering all possible risk factors, and I'm concerned that drinking electrolyte-infused water will be risky. Should I be worried?

There is a chance that electrolyte water can cause kidney stones, but only if the electrolytes are consumed in large quantities. The excess sodium that the kidneys need to process causes the body to expel calcium, which in turn can lead to kidney stones. However, adding mineral drops to your water in the correct dosage should have no negative effects.
