Does ion exchange filtration remove bacteria from water?
Asked 2 years ago
With all these new illnesses coming out of nowhere, I am very concerned about ingesting bacteria from tap water. I just moved into a new house, and I’m thinking of getting an ion exchange system so that it can remove contaminants. Do these systems effectively get rid of bacteria?

No, ion exchange doesn't rid water of bacteria or pyrogens even though it is one of the most common water filtration methods. The ion exchange process is used for water softening, and it removes heavy metals, nitrates, arsenic, perchlorate, hexavalent-chrome, and other chemicals from municipal water feeds.
