What are the benefits of chlorinated water?
Asked 3 years ago
I genuinely always thought that chlorinated water was used only in swimming pools. When I found out that our water treatment included methods like chlorination, I became concerned about whether chlorine in our drinking water was safe enough for human consumption. Is there any health benefit to ingesting this kind of water?

Chlorine is added to our drinking water to clean it. There is no direct benefit to drinking chlorinated water, and the levels of chlorine used for making clean drinking water disinfection are unlikely to cause long-term health effects. The only "benefits" are that chlorine purifies the water we drink from viruses and bacteria.
