Does the rule of eight apply to athletes when hydrating with water?
Asked 3 years ago
As an athlete, staying hydrated is important for a lot of things. I drink water before, during, and after working out for muscle recovery and to maintain my body temperature during my sessions. In my case, does the rule of eight apply if you are an athlete or are we supposed to drink more water than average?

The short answer is no. Athletes need more water than 8 glasses, but the amount of water needed varies based on activity, intensity, environmental conditions, and body size. The more intense the session, the more you sweat and the more water you need. On average, athletes should drink 6-12 fl. oz. every 10-20 minutes throughout training.
