What vitamins are best to take postpartum?
Asked 13 days ago
just had my baby a few weeks ago, and I'm feeling pretty fatigued. I know my body went through a lot, and I want to make sure I'm getting all the nutrients I need to recover and support breastfeeding. I've heard that certain vitamins are especially important postpartum, but I'm not sure which ones to focus on. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

I've done a ton of research on this. My OB recommended I keep taking my prenatal vitamins for a while after giving birth, which was super convenient. But I also added a few extras based on advice from my doctor and other mom friends:
- Iron - I was pretty anemic after delivery, so this was a must for me.
- Vitamin D - Especially since I wasn't getting out much with a newborn!
- Omega-3/DHA - Supposedly good for both me and the baby through breastmilk.
- Calcium - For my bones and the baby's.
I've heard good things about B12 and folate too, but they were already in my prenatal! But definitely check with your doctor before starting any new supplements. They might want to run some tests to see what you actually need.
