Are goldfish sensitive to water quality and pH?

Asked a year ago

My husband bought a reverse osmosis filter for our home to filter our well water. My son wants a pet fish, and I'm thinking about getting him a gold fish with a small tank to teach him about the fish. My kitchen has filtered water with a pH score of 7. I'm curious if this will have an effect on the gold fish?

Reverse osmosis water is a good starting point for a fish tank because it is free from toxic chemicals, contains no water hardness, and has a neutral pH. Goldfish are able to withstand variations in pH better than other fish. However, they thrive at a pH level of 7 to 7.6.
