How much electrolytes should I drink during a run?

Asked 2 years ago

I haven't been in the frame to exercise a lot and now I feel like getting back in shape by participating in our annual marathon event. I don't think I'll be able to survive the strain on my body without constant hydration. I'm thinking of taking electrolyte-infused water throughout my run and I'm not sure how much electrolyte I should take.

The goal when running long distances is to replenish at least 80% of your fluid loss per hour while you are active. As a general rule when it comes to electrolytes, 700mg to 900mg of electrolytes are recommended per 1000ml of fluid during an intense training session.
