What not to eat after labor?
Asked 13 days ago
I'm due in a week, and I'm trying to get prepared for postpartum and breastfeeding. I've been reading a lot about what to eat to support milk supply and recovery, but I'm also wondering about foods to avoid after labor. I want to be extra careful, especially in those early weeks. Are there any foods that are generally considered off-limits postpartum, particularly while breastfeeding?

I remember freaking out about this too!
Here's what I learned from my experience and chatting with other moms:
- I'm not big on alcohol, but if you are, it's best to avoid it for a while. Some moms do the whole "pump and dump" thing, but honestly, it's easier to just skip it.
- You don't have to give it up completely (thank god!), but maybe stick to 1-2 cups a day. Your baby might be wired enough without extra caffeine! ☕
- Some babies get gassy or fussy if you eat spicy food. Mine did, so I had to say goodbye to my beloved hot sauce for a while. 😭
- Avoid the big predator fish. Stick to salmon, tilapia, etc.
- Peppermint and sage can apparently mess with your milk supply.
