Does reverse osmosis really help to purify water?

Asked 2 years ago

My neighbor has been talking about how water quality is an issue and having some device or system to improve the quality of tap water is essential. Now I have been looking at different options for my home. They have a reverse osmosis (RO) water purification system, and I’m still not sure if it’s the best quality water as a water filtration method.

Yes, reverse osmosis works to purify water. The reverse osmosis process uses a semi-permeable membrane to filter any unwanted compounds and large particles like sediment, contaminants, chlorine, dirt, and salt. Reverse osmosis removes viruses, nitrates, fluoride, arsenic, sulfates, and bacteria. However, this process also removes the healthy minerals from the water like sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium.
