Is increased irritability a sign of dehydration in athletes?
Asked 2 years ago
I had a hockey match last week, and I felt quite irritable. My coach thinks I was off my game for personal reasons. I remember that day was kinda hot and my performance was off that day. Is it possible that it might have been due to fluid loss during the game? I was sweating a lot too.

Yes. The neurological effects of dehydration can cause irritability due to the imbalance in electrolyte levels. Dehydration also has other effects on the body, like fatigue, headaches, mood swings, and difficulty concentrating which could have all affected your hockey game. Fluid replacement is an essential part of any athletic regime.
